ALDI’s Ongoing Efforts Recognized by EPA

ALDI has been recognized for its ongoing commitment to reduce overall environmental impact | #Ongoing commitment to reduce overall environmental impact |, receiving the 2020 Green Power Leadership Award and a 2019 GreenChill Store Certification, and a Re-Certification Excellence Award for select stores, from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

ALDI Proud to Receive EPA Recognition

Aaron Sumida, vice president of ALDI, said that the company is “proud to receive these honorable recognitions from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.” The company is one of America’s largest retailers, and Sumida explains that “it’s important for ALDI to prioritize our adoption of green power usage across our operations.”

Sumida explains that the company is looking forward to “continuing our sustainability journey by taking intentional and strategic steps to make our stores and warehouses more environmentally friendly.”

Green Power Leadership

The annual Green Power Leadership Awards are part of the EPA’s Green Power Partner recognition program. The program is designed to celebrate America’s leading green power users for their commitment and contribution to help advance the development of the nation’s voluntary green power market.
ALDIA was one of only four organizations nationwide to receive an Excellence in Green Power Use Award for demonstrating exemplary action and dedication to significantly advancing the U.S. renewable energy market | Learn more on Commonshare |.
At present, ALDI is purchasing more than 980 million kilowatt-hours of green power annually. This is enough green power to meet more than 100 percent of the organization’s electricity use.
ALDI also ranks 16th on EPA’s National Top 100 list of participating companies, and number 3 on the Top 30 Retail list and number 15 on the top 30 on-stie renewables list. Every list highlights EPA Green Power Partners.

GreenChill for Greener Refrigeration

Additionally, the EPA’s GreenChill Partnership is designed to help supermarkets make the shift to environmentally friendlier refrigerants, reduce harmful refrigerant emissions and adopt greener refrigeration technologies.
ALDI has also received a Store Certification Excellence award for achieving the most GreenChill certifications in the past year, along with a Store Re-Certification Excellence award for certain stores in New York for renewing GreenChill store certifications for five consecutive years. As of December of 2019, ALDI has more than 300 GreenChill-certified stores across the country, each of which has received platinum ratings.
