Amazon Launches Climate Pledge Friendly Label

Amazon has launched a new Climate Pledge Friendly program, designed to help consumers find products that have been produced in environmentally friendly ways.

Climate Pledge Friendly

Amazon’s new Climate Pledge Friendly label is designed to point consumers in the right direction, helping them to identify more than 25,000 products that have gained at least one of 19 different sustainability certifications.
The products include grocery, household, fashion, beauty, and personal electronics products, and a range of other categories. All of the products are clearly labeled as Climate Pledge Friendly, have additional sustainability information on their individual product pages, and are even featured in a dedicated section of the store.
Amazon has partnered with a number of different third-party certifiers, and as a result, customers will be able to discover products that meet a variety of different sustainability standards.

Compact by Design

Amazon’s Compact by Design is another part of its Climate Pledge Friendly initiative. This is a new certification that identifies products that have a more efficient design. Products packaged with excess air or water removed, for example, require less packaging and are therefore more efficient to ship.
Seventh Generation

For example, the household products company Seventh Generation offers a Compact by Design-certified super-concentrated laundry detergent that uses 60% less plastic and 50% less water than the standard 100-ounce laundry bottle. If every household in the United States were to buy one bottle of this Easy Dose ultra-concentrated laundry detergent instead of the 100-ounce bottle, the result would be a savings of 220,000 tons of CO2 emissions every year, the same as not driving 540 million miles.
Concentrated cleaners

Another Compact by Design product is Mrs. Meyer’s multi-surface concentrate. This is a concentrated formula designed to eliminate excess water: one 32-ounce bottle is able to make over 16 gallons of cleaning solution, reducing the need for repeat purchases and thus reducing carbon emissions.
If every household used concentrated cleaners of this type, the result would be a savings of 200,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to 500 million miles not driven.

Amazon’s Sustainability Commitments

As Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos explains, Climate Pledge Friendly “is a simple way for customers to discover more sustainable products that help preserve the natural world.”
The Climate Pledge Friendly initiative also helps to support Amazon in its commitment to reach the Paris Agreement ten years early and be net zero carbon by 2040.
The company has also committed to 100% renewable energy | Learn more on Commonshare | by 2025, and has ordered over 100,000 fully electric delivery vehicles. It plans to invest $100 million in reforestation projects around the world.
