Celanese Corporation Acquires Nouryon’s Elotex

With the acquisition, Celanese is taking charge of Nouryon’s global production facilities in Europe and Asia, all Elotex products, and all customer agreements, technology, and commercial facilities.
For Celanese, the acquisition is a big win. With Elotex, the company will have access to a sector that is characterized by fast-growing applications, as well as a customer base complementary to their current emulsions business.
Celanese Corporation is a $6.4 billion global integrated chemical company | https://www.chemicalprocessing.com/cp50/2008/celanese/ |. The company sees itself as a provider of differentiated chemistry solutions and specialty materials, with markets in most major industries and consumer applications.
A redispersible polymer powder | https://celluloseether.com/what-are-redispersible-polymer-powders/ | is a polymer emulsion converted into a powdered thermoplastic resin material by means of a series of processes that include high temperatures and pressures.
When these chemicals are mixed with water, they can redisperse back into new emulsions, ones that have essentially identical properties to the original copolymer emulsions.
Elotex is a leading redispersible polymer powder brand, and Elotex polymer powders are used widely in a variety of product applications.
Elotex-branded polymer powders may be found in self-leveling flooring and wall texturing smoothing/painting.
They are also found in exterior thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS), which are important for insulating and waterproofing exterior walls.
Cement tile adhesives and grouts for floor and wall tiles, mosaics, and flat natural stone are other applications. They are also used in gypsum plaster and joint fillers, polymer binding systems, and cement and time-based renders.
Now that Celanese owns Elotex, the company expects to integrate Elotex into its global acetyl chain to help meet demand worldwide. At present, Elotex has production facilities in North America, in Europe, including Frankfurt in Germany, Geleen in the Netherlands, Moosleerau in Switzerland, and in China, in Shanghai.

For its part, Nouryon continues to see itself as a global specialty chemicals leader. Nouryon chemical products are used in the manufacture of everything from paper to plastics, from building materials to food, pharmaceuticals, and personal care items.
With the acquisition of Elotex, Celanese will be well-positioned to expand further and meet more consumer demand.
For the company’s leaders, the secret to Celanese’s success is its proprietary production technology. It produces acetyl products by means of industry-leading proprietary and licensed technologies.
Celanese is already a world leader as an integrated chemical company. Now that it has incorporated Elotex into its brand portfolio, it will be even more significant in the competitive landscape.
