Celanese Corporation’s VAM Technology Awarded Green Technology Status in China

The chemical vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) ( https://thechemco.com/chemical/vinyl-acetate-monomer-vam/ ) is an organic compound, important for a wide variety of industrial applications. At room temperature VAM is liquid, and it has no natural color.
Celanese Corporation’s VAM was awarded the green technology designation in China because of an impressive combination of environmentally friendly traits.
The company produces its VAM using processes that result in low carbon emissions, low energy consumption, low content of heavy components, and that results in high product quality.
The designation of green technology was awarded to Celanese Corporation by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF). The CPCIF announced the award in the Directory for Petrochemical Green Technology (2019 edition).
Harvey Zhao, the senior director of Celanese-owned Asia Acetyls, was invited to the press event and award ceremony. As a representative of Celanese, he delivered a speech on the company’s behalf.
Mr. Zhao talked about the ethylene-based VAM technology and the ongoing efforts made by Celanese to ensure safety and environmental protection.
In Mr. Zhao’s words: “Celanese will continue to adhere to our business principles of sustainable product development.”
Celanese is a major world leader in the production of differentiated chemistry solutions. They are particularly notable as a major VAM manufacturer making use of profoundly green technologies.
VAM is not used as a finished product; rather, it serves as a vitally-important intermediate during the manufacturing processes for many different polymers and resins that go into a variety of adhesives, coatings, paints, films, textiles, wire, and cable insulation.
Celanese’s VAM is used to produce varying types of polymer emulsions, base resins for water-based paints, adhesives, paper coatings, and textile finishes.
Globally, about 80% of all VAM production is consumed in the manufacture of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH or PVA).
Celanese is well-known for its commitments to both environmental and social responsibility.
As the company seeks to create value for all stakeholders, it also strives to do good in the communities in which it operates and throughout the world.
The Celanese Foundation ( https://www.celanese.com/foundation ) is the company’s philanthropic arm, an employee-led effort that focuses on improving quality of life for people around the world. There is a strong focus on partnership with local organizations to promote charitable aims.
Celanese is also a major leader in the “Circular Economy”, and is known for its bio-based materials as well as its recycled content materials ( https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20191022006044/en/Celanese-Bio-based-Materials-Recycled-Offerings-Deliver-Businesses ).
A leader in low-impact technologies, including the reuse of materials and the use of environmentally friendly products, Celanese is a major contributor to sustainability efforts in the differentiated chemicals industry.
The recent award in China is a fitting homage to a company that has made such great efforts to promote sustainability and a greener future in the industries in which it operates.
