Plastic: a serious environmental problem
Some 78 million tons of plastic are produced every year, and 32% of that ends up in the waters of the ocean. It is a severe environmental problem that imperils the well-being of countless ocean creatures.
Turning plastic into fashion
Recognizing the problem, numerous fashion brands have decided to take a stand with a bold and audacious solution: take the ocean plastic and turn it into apparel. For example, since 2017 Adidas has been working with the conservation charity Parley for the Oceans to create trainers from ocean plastic.
The shoes all have NFC chips in their heels, and if the buyer scans them using an app they can pull up the complete story of the shoes.
