Consumers Might Take Agriculture For Granted

Speaking in a Shop Talk Townhall with the Minnesota Farm Bureau, Perdue said that his fear is that as consumers become comfortable with affordable food choices, they may take agriculture for granted and dictate production policies | Learn more on Commonshare | in livestock, animal welfare, and technology.
Perdue says that this is happening in the European Union today, and “we cannot afford for that to happen in the United States.”

Speaking to Minnesota FFA President Ben Olander, Perdue said he hoped Olander and his colleagues “can get out from behind the farm gate and communicate” the story of contemporary agriculture.
Again citing the example of Europe, Perdue said that Europeans “haven’t been hungry since WWII” and are “trying to constrain the technology of agricultural production in a way that is going to be very detrimental to the productive capacity” and to technology.
